RAY to provide EUR 306 million in funding for health and social welfare organizations

According to the proposal, the funding will be divided between 1 103 applicant organizations for 2 393 projects and activities. In addition it is proposed that EUR 103 million from RAY’s profits is transferred to the State Treasury for use in the care and rehabilitation of war veterans.


RAY’s Board of Administration proposes that a total of EUR 306 million in funding is distributed during 2007. According to the proposal, the funding will be divided between 1 103 applicant organizations for 2 393 projects and activities. In addition it is proposed that EUR 103 million from RAY’s profits is transferred to the State Treasury for use in the care and rehabilitation of war veterans.

EUR 44 million for old-age welfare and issues of population aging

One of the central areas of focus for RAY’s funding in 2007 is old-age welfare, and EUR 44 million has been allocated for this purpose. In particular RAY will provide funding for work targeting issues associated with dementia, supporting home carers, and promoting elderly people’s mental and physical welfare.

Other significant areas of funding in 2007 are child protection and youth work (EUR 40 million), mental health work (EUR 32 million), and work to prevent intoxicant abuse (EUR 31 million).

Over 1 600 applications

RAY received a total of 1 606 applications for funding in 2007: these applications covered 3 725 projects and activities in all, and the total amount of funding applied for was EUR 613.9 million.

Funding is granted to voluntary organizations which promote health and social welfare. Funding recipients include many medical support groups, mental health associations, organizations promoting child protection, and organizations providing accommodation and services for the elderly.

The final decision on the 2007 distribution of funding will be taken by the Government at the end of January.
